Unsolicited advice on how to stay "young and beautiful" from random dudes on the street? Nah, I'm good thanks.
A November Wrap-Up
With few words to spare after the last few chaotic weeks, I'll let some of this month's insta-posts do the work.
Birthday Celebration in “The Wild”
While feeling tears-in-my-eyes happy for a weekend out in the tent...the questions are the same as always. "Who used to live here before?" "Where are they now?" "Why are these stories not talked about more?". In short - walking on "US soil" is walking on Stolen Land and as a consequence, we have questions to ask, answers to seek and a lot of work to do.
Boundaries
After a summer full of difficult but needed boundary-setting, it seems wise to sit down and look at the lessons learned, so that next time might run smoother. Here is my attempt.
Assumptions
Assumptions - we all do them on a daily basis. Learning how to be more inclusive in our language will benefit us all.
Do The Work
BLACK LIVES MATTER. Speak up, shout out loud - and remember to do the inner work, as well.
Talking About Racism (With an Insulted White Person)
Baffled by the denial of that systemic racism exists in the States today, I did my best to have a discussion about race, and racism - with an insulted white person.
“I Don’t Know Enough About Race…” (repost @theconsciouskid)
“The white claim that one does not know much about race is particularly problematic because, while it positions whiteness as “innocence,” it simultaneously reinforces the projection of race onto people of color—they have race, not us, and thus are the holders of racial knowledge."
Slow Travel Magazine
Just read a description of Medium as a “twitter but for long-form texts”. Intriguing! Testing it out by creating a "Magazine".
Things That Didn’t Use to Exist
The thought that...basically all the "things" that surround us, at one point...didn't exist. Until someone got an idea and created them, they just weren't here. Mind boggling.
